Lakewood, Los Angeles County
Lakewood Center opened in 1952 at the heart of the new suburb, with a May Company department store and parking for thousands of cars. It was one of the first regional shopping malls in the United States and is still among the largest in Los Angeles County. A retired Douglas jet fighter stands on a pylon in Del Valle Park, a Lakewood memorial to local veterans.
